Where can I find those graphic/vintage shirts people wear to the club now?
I like those graphic shirts that have crazy colors and designs that people are now wearing out to the club. I would like to find a hip hop brand that makes these shirts. I notice that they wear them a lot in the UPN show called THE GAME. Does anybody know where to purchase these. Does Sean John or other urban clothing brand make these?
In my opinion people that have to ask where to buy shirts like that obliviously should be wearing them in the first place. If clothes like that were meant to be a part of you style and wardrobe you would have bumped into them already, but these shirts are not your style

Led Zeppelin – The Song Remains the Same [Blu-ray] $8.99 For Led Zeppelin fanatics, this 1976 feature The Song Remains the Same is a treasure of searing live performances, particularly welcome in light of the sad scarcity of such visual material from the band’s great decade. Aladdin [VHS] $4.42 Disney’s 1992 animated feature is a triumph of wit and skill. The high-tech artwork and graphics look great, the characters are strong, the familiar story is nicely augmented with an interesting villain (Jafar, voiced by Jonathan Freeman), and there’s an incredible hook atop the whole thing: Robin Williams’s frantically hilarious vocal performance as Aladdin’s genie. Even if one isn’t particularly… |

Star Wars, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (Special Edition) [VHS] $3.95 The middle film in George Lucas’s enormously popular Star Wars science fiction trilogy is a darker, more somber entry, considered by many fans as the best in the series. A Christmas Carol [VHS] $7.50 This 1938 MGM version of the Dickens classic is not the most rewarding of the various adaptations (that honor goes to Biran Desmond Hurst’s 1951 film, starring Alistair Sim), but it has a strong if narrow performance by Reginald Owen as the miser Ebenezer Scrooge. Vintage $5.07 These are the earliest-known recordings of Canned Heat with the primordial lineup of Alan “Blind Owl” Wilson (guitar/harmonica/vocals), Stuart Brotman (bass), Henry “Sunflower” Vestine (guitar), Bob “The Bear” Hite (vocals), and either Keith Sawyer (drums), or perhaps his replacement, Frank Cook (drums), who joined circa 1966. Another notable name among the personnel listed on the original LP jacket is rhythm & blues legend, Johnny Otis as producer. This is certainly fitting, as the Heat wind their way through compact, high-energy versions of a variety of selections, directly contrasting the longer psychedelic showcases that would evolve over the next few years. Their almost cerebral respect for their predecessors would have suggested that the band hailed from anywhere other than their Topanga Canyon digs. However, Wilson, Vestine, and Hite were consummate students of authentic R&B, as evidenced by their practically note-for-note transcriptions of tunes from Chicago icons such as Muddy Waters (“Got My Mojo Working”), Willie Dixon (“Spoonful” and “Pretty Thing”), John Lee Hooker (“Louise” and “Dimples”), and Elmore James (“Rollin’ and Tumblin’.”) The latter cut is actually presented in two distinct renderings — with and without Wilson’s hard-hitting harmonica leads, closely resembling the sound of their self-titled debut, Canned Heat (1967) from the following year. A second holdover is “Big Road Blues,” which is also given a similar driving beat and an otherwise solid reading. These sessions have surfaced on an endless array of reissues including Don’t Forget to Boogie: Vintage Heat (2002), Vintage Canned Heat [Sundazed] (1996), or paired with a 1969 concert platter on the Akarma Records double-play Live at the Topanga Corral/Vintage (2002). ~ Lindsay Planer, Rovi Performers: Alan Wilson – Vocals, Guitar; Bob Hite – Vocals; Frank Cook – Drums; Henry Vestine – Guitar; Larry Taylor – Bass; Stuart Brotman – Bass |

Entry Concrete

directions to laying tile (on concrete)?
just a little spot at the entry way, (the rest will be carpet)
Concrete is actually one of the best surfaces for tile (provided it is level). Since you are tiling an entry way – my guess would be you have nothing to worry about. The first thing you should do is measure the area and formulate an idea of what kind/size of tile you wish to use and what kind of pattern you are going to follow. Once this is complete, determine your center and snap a chalk line – which may be offset a little to minimize small cuts. From this point forward – simply spread the thin-set (some prefer mastic) on the concrete with a quarter inch notched trowel and lay the tile – paying close attention to stay on center. For clean grout lines – be sure to use spacers (commonly a quarter inch). After the thin-set has had time to cure (generally 24 hours) you may then grout (using a smooth rubber trowel). Helpful Hint, try not to over work the grout – as it may lose its color. Also, when you sponge the tile to remove excess grout – keep the water as clean as possible to avoid having a haze on your new tile job.
good luck

The Concrete Revolution $19.29 As China evolved into a global economic superpower during the early 21st century, a darker and more seldom-discussed side to the equation emerged. Beijing checked in as the most thriving construction sector in the world, thanks to events such as the 2008 Beijing Olympics and China’s official entry into the WTO, but the 80-120 million construction workers appointed to make this transformation a reality received pitifully low, almost subhuman wages, and their jobs involved toiling for untoward lengths of time, often with the strain of exhaustion and under the aegis of inept and careless contractors who put their safety at risk. Moreover (as the documentary Up the Yangtze eloquently demonstrated), a shift toward capitalism and consumerism means burying thousands of years of indigenous and irreplaceable Chinese history and culture. As helmed by Guo Xiaolu, the documentary The Concrete Revolution focuses exclusively on exploring the dark side of the construction boom and the cultural fallout from China’s transformation into an economic superpower. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi |

Concrete Toronto $20.95 Toronto is a concrete city. From international landmarks to civic buildings to cultural institutions to metropolitan infrastructure and the single-family home, reminders of the era of 'brutalist' architecture surround Torontonians. But for how long? As architectural fashion has shifted to the glass-and-steel neomodernism of today, these concrete structures have been increasingly ignored – and in some cases, demolished. Concrete Toronto takes readers on a guided tour of Toronto's concrete architecture. Editors Michael McClelland and Graeme Stewart have assembled a diverse group of industry experts – architects, university faculty, local practitioners, city planners, historians and journalists – to examine the unique and important qualities and the past and future of Toronto's concrete buildings in interviews, articles, archival photos, drawings and case studies. Appealing to both the average reader and the enthusiast, Concrete Toronto provides a refreshing look not only at the neglected buildings, but also at the trends that produced them and the impact and consequences that resulted from their construction. |

Concrete Love $14.38 English singer/songwriter Julia Fordham rediscovers pain and passion on her sixth album, Concrete Love. Four years since 1997’s East West, Fordham has had plenty of time to experience love’s greatest fun and fears, but with time on her hands to perfect something more personal. Concrete Love is probably her most stripped album since 1989’s Porcelain, and Fordham’s honeyed, dark, four-octave brood is at its best. She and producer Larry Klein (he produced 1994’s Falling Forward) collaborate again, crafting her songwriting into something delicate, vast in bold hues of something shimmering and gold. Songs such as “It’s Another You Day” and “Butterfly” are carefree with light, springlike jazz tinges. “Foolish Thing” changes tempo; the mood is sultry and Fordham’s aching vocals question love’s dramatic ways. She sticks with the soulful grooves throughout the entire album — “It’s Another You Day,” “Missing Man” — and breezy acoustics project a seamless composition overall. Concrete Love is an emotional record rich with layered musicianship, a signature of Fordham, but nothing less than what listeners are all feeling. “Alleluia,” the breathtaking collaboration with gravelly singer/songwriter Joe Henry, bridges Fordham’s most heartwrenching moment. She’s confident and Concrete Love is a sure sign of such intrinsic beauty and musical grace. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, Rovi |

Frank Nuyts: 3 Sonatas for Piano $14.38 There is a fearsome intellectual substructure to these three contemporary piano sonatas by composer Frank Nuyts, but they are conversely tonal in sound, clear in organization, and quite accessible. The paradox lies at the heart of this unique music, which accomplishes the considerable feat of working within traditional forms and instrumentation but sounding entirely unlike anything else out there. Annotator Yves Senden writes that Nuyts in these works “states his individual tension within the field of tension that exists between modernism and postmodernism.” Indeed, there are aspects of both in the music, and Nuyts is one of the first composers to attempt a thorough insertion of vernacular elements into music with a complex systematic basis. Whether the whole enterprise holds together is for history to decide, but the listening experience is fascinating. Briefly, these sonatas sound something like what might have happened if George Gershwin had followed through on his plans to take composition lessons from Europe’s great intellects, had ended up with Webern, and then had lived long enough to somehow witness and absorb the birth of minimalism and even its encounter with techno music. The individual movements clearly define their own tonal centers, are divided into sections with roughly the contrasting relationships of traditional sonata form, use lengthy passages of repeated notes to establish musical layers, and make frequent reference to blues and jazz. Sample it, and you may well want to enter the labyrinth. Booklet notes are in Dutch, English, German, and French; they include biographies of the three different pianists (one for each sonata), but not even a nationality for Nuyts himself; he is apparently a Belgian Fleming. ~ James Manheim, Rovi Performers: Benjamin Van Esser – Piano; Elisa Medinilla – Piano; Marc Masson – Piano |

True Romance $14.39 2009 debut release. Produced by producer wunderkind Lexxx (Crystal Castles, Esser), True Romance is a triumphant album by a truly modern band who comprise of keyboardist/lead vocalist Gwilym Gold, bassist Ben Moorhouse and drummer Alexis Nunez (both of whom sing backing vocals). It’s a superbly stylish record expressed in a dazzling collaboration of colors, eras and styles. Guitar-free, Psychedelic and literate, Golden Silvers deal in huge, unabashed melodies, inspirational songwriting and dashing, groove-laden Pop. Their sound is as much influenced by the mix of Daft Punk, Beach Boys and giddy Indie-Electro mash-ups they heard on the dance floor at Trash, as it is by the Dr. Dre and Marvin Gaye tunes they danced to at Soul and Hip Hop clubs or the Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, Prince and Hendrix albums they were weaned on. 10 tracks. XL. Performers: Ben Moorhouse – Vocals (Background), Bass; Gwilym Gold – Keyboards, Vocals; Jay Phelps – Trumpet; Michael Mwenso – Trombone; Nathaniel Facey – Sax (Alto) |

WaWuWe $17.58 Looking at the cover of this two-disc set, which features nine different photos of Sebastian Mullaert posing in a furry black dog costume, you might expect the music to be somewhat weird. And you would not be wrong, though you might be surprised at how strangely soothing and genuinely engaging it is at the same time. The first disc is the more downtempo of the two, and is in fact nearly soporific, featuring gently thumping techno fare from the likes of STL, Darko Esser, Black Jazz Consortium, El_txef_a, and Minilogue (Mullaert’s duo project with Marcus Henriksson). But somehow it never gets boring; the sound is consistently gentle, warm, soothing, and richly textured. Although Mullaert DJs in strictly analog mode, without the help of a computer, his beat-matching and segues are absolutely seamless and the disc ends up being strangely uplifting. Disc two, which is also continuously mixed, is funkier and more lively, and also brings more exotic sonic elements to the program: woven through the tracks by Joe Clausell, Cobblestone Jazz, Marlon D., the Black Dog, and Mullaert himself, you’ll hear vocal samples that sound like they were recorded all over the Southern Hemisphere, deeply dubwise echoes and reverb effects, slippery syncopations, and lots and lots more of those gently thumping techno beats. Starker and edgier than the first disc, the second is nevertheless equally inviting and involving. Taken together, the whole WaWuWe program is amazingly satisfying. ~ Rick Anderson, Rovi |

Donizetti, Rossini: Bel canto Arias $19.99 This charming disc showcases Vivica Genaux doing what she does best: tearing through highly florid music, often at breakneck speed, without seeming to break a sweat. Even Cecilia Bartoli — arguably the reigning queen of fioritura — has never handled the dizzying twists and turns of Rossini so gracefully. Of course, there is more to bel canto music than fireworks, and Genaux’s singing occasionally lacks the focus and tonal variety to sustain interest during more lyrical passages; but it is hard to resist the urge to play certain tracks, like the opening “Nacqui all’ affanno…Non più mesta” from La cenerentola, many times over just to enjoy the ride. Genaux’s treatment of ornamentation, style, and the Italian language are world-class. John Nelson and the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris deliver a sharp, colorful performance that brings the different sounds and styles of Rossini and Donizetti, the two featured composers, into relief. The varied program includes one especially rare number: “Popolo, amici…Ah! Sì, da tanti affani” from Donizetti’s early Alahor in Granata, which only received its first modern performance in 1998. Other highlights include “Il segreto per esser felici” from Lucrezia Borgia, which is just a great tune, and of course Rosina’s “Una voce poco fa” from Il barbière di Siviglia; it would be hard to find a better performance of that favorite anywhere. ~ Allen Schrott, Rovi |

Renew $15.98 From the sound of this album one would suspect Otto’s Daughter to be the offspring of Marilyn Manson and Shirley Manson, with Trent Reznor as the obstetrician. Moans, groans, shrieks, sighs, yawns, clanks, and spooky horror movie synth effects season the tracks, creating gloomy and occasionally compelling goth rock. There are some sonic experiments like “Cuts” (which sounds like someone is indeed being cut up) and “Venus Asleep,” which suggests the audial experience of trying to wake up. On the vocal tracks, voices are often overdubbed and electronically altered to sound rather like ET. Of note are the scatologically silly “Showgirls”; “Todestanz” (Death Dance), sung in German; the surprisingly tuneful “Hail”; and a cover of Depeche Mode’s “Stripped” which is competent but lacks David Gahan’s charismatic vocal style. Renew is a good party record for goth fans. Other listeners may find some amusement, but will also find some tracks to be snoozers. ~ Lynne Bronstein, Rovi Performers: Dan Esser – Guitar; HH Gadget – Keyboards, Drums; Jim Robbins – Guitar; S.A. Sebastian Gnolfo – Guitar, Bass |
